Craftsman house raised on steel beams and cribbing towers in Seattle

A 1918 Ballard craftsman sat low on a failing foundation with a crawlspace nobody could stand up in. The owners wanted a daylight basement without giving up the house they had spent fifteen years restoring.

What we did

We cribbed the house and lifted it on steel I beams, then dug down and formed a new foundation with full-height walls beneath it. The original structure never came apart — the family moved back into the same house, now sitting over a finished lower floor.

Details

  • Full lift on cribbing, house habitable for most of the schedule
  • New engineered foundation poured beneath the original structure
  • Permitting and the engineering team coordinated by us
